Cults

A definition of a cult: "Any group with an elitist cause and view of itself, which has a pyramid type of authoritarian leadership structure with all teaching and guidance coming from that person/persons at the top. The group will claim to be the only way to God, Nirvana, Paradise, ultimate reality, full potential etc., and will use thought reform or mind control techniques to gain control and keep their members." "To have someone you love in a cult is like a living death. I compare it to the grief of watching a person die knowing there is a cure and being unable to use it." - Henrietta Crampton in 'Cults and their Consequences'. http://www.cifs.org.au/info.html

When the Church is Abusive: When is Church a Controlling Cult?

I was sickened and saddened when I came across a website with information regarding a church where I knew of some of the people in the congregation in the past. It had been years since I had taken a deeper look at this particular church and had a very strong check in my heart as to whether not so good things were going on.

I consulted a California based cult watching organization regarding the church and they had said they were well aware of the ministry I spoke of and had been watching it. This was at least 17 years ago.

Identifying & Combating the Cultish Group Mentalities

Cults

A key factor of mind control is the classic one man scenario. One man is the leader in a group; he does all the speaking and makes all the decisions. In order to keep his control, he makes the group dependent on himself for the basic necessities of life: food, clothing, and shelter. Also, he establishes a group think mentality that totally eliminates individuality.

Through the use of force and/or persuasive speaking, he influences the group to administer his ideologies on potential dissident members. As a result of the persistent pressure from the one man, the group constantly emphasizes and reemphasizes the need for everyone to think and act the same. Because individuality is viewed as a threat to the groups dynamics, contact with the outside world is limited.

Specifically, cults break down your personality and belief system, then rebuild you and give you a new belief system. Whereas abusive women break you down and keep breaking you down until theres nothing left. They dont rebuild you nor do they have an ideology beyond, Its all about me and my feelings and Im always right no matter how wrong I am.

Info about cults

Cults

CULT:

Collective veneration or worship (e.g., the cult of the saints meaning collective veneration of the saints in Roman Catholicism). In the West, the term has come to be used for groups that are perceived to have deviated from normative religions in belief and practice.

They typically have a charismatic leader and attract followers who are in some way disenfranchised from the mainstream of society. Cults as thus defined are often viewed as foreign or dangerous.

Leaving a cult-

Generally, the attitude exists that if anyone has concerns or uneasy feelings about spiritually abusive activities, they are accused of not being in submission to authority and could even suffer from extreme character assassination (both privately and publicly) in order to diminish the effect of any desire of clarification that could liberate themselves and/or others from a spiritually abusive person/situation.

The Network of Stolen Consciousness

Cults

flag_canada

by Beth Goobie

I am a survivor of intelligence cults that operate across Canada and are connected internationally. In 1959, I was born into an inter-generational CIA-connected cult that continues to operate in central Ontario.

I was first subjected to calculated torture sessions in the womb, and have been able to integrate fetal selves as an adult. I was an experienced dissociater at birth, an accomplished prostitute before kindergarten, and was being circulated on an elite international circuit by grade school. My programming involved fragmentation into alters who were trained as sex agents, couriers, computers, and cult alters (priestess, seeker, caller, whore, slave, trainer, etc.)

Some of my alters were trained to handle weapons. The stories of Kathleen Sullivan, Brice Taylor, Cisco Wheeler, and Claudia Mullen, as well as Cathy O'Brien's TranceFormation of America describe much that is familiar to me, including near-death centers and 'hunting.' I would like to thank each of these women for speaking out. I deeply admire your courage. Keep going.

Democratic Societies Need To Face Issues On Cults

Cults

flag_India

In my colleagues and my extensive experience in exposing the global Sathya Sai Baba cult and its leader, Indias most famous guru, whom successive Indian governments and institutions have long and corruptly protected, we have found a striking fact: governments, and indeed whole societies, fail to face the problem of cults.

Most Infamous Cults Part 3

Cults

flag_usa

The actual definition of a cult varies greatly, but in general it refers to a cohesive social group bound together by veneration of the same atypical belief system. Popular perception often portrays cults as being violent, destructive maniacs with loaded paint ball guns, and while most cults are certainly controversial, they dont always carry out extreme acts.

Signs of Church Abuse

Cults

flag_usa

The first danger sign of a possibly unsound church, Enroth explains, can be seen through a high-handed exhibition of its leadership's authority, which often appears unnervingly legitimate. "Spiritual abuse can take place in the context of doctrinally sound, Bible preaching, fundamental, conservative Christianity.

All that is needed for abuse is a pastor accountable to no one and therefore beyond confrontation. .. Authoritarian leaders are ecclesiastical loners. That is, they do not function well or willingly in the context of systematic checks or balances. They are fiercely independent and refuse to be part of a structure of accountability.

To put it crudely, they operate a one-man (or one-woman) spiritual show. And God help the person who gets in the way or makes waves."

Secrets of the Stars: Tracing the Origins of Ancient Cults and Cabals

Cults

We come together for protection against predators, for strength in numbers. Whether you are a Freemason or a Boy Scout, the reason you join forces with others of like-race and like-mind is to gain strength and protection.

In the extensive research for my new book and DVD, Secret Societies: Gardiners Forbidden Knowledge, Revelations About the Freemasons, Templars, Illuminati, Nazis, and the Serpent Cults, I found that, historically, the secret societies of the world are all connected and all derive from a similar if not the same source, and that the threads running through them all have been traced by scholars throughout the ages.

Imokes war against cultists

Cults

flag_usa

The government of Cross River State, a few days ago, took another step forward in the battle against cultism in the state. Governor Liyel Imoke ordered an extension of the suspension order slammed on ten councillors of the Calabar South Local Government allegedly implicated in violent clashes in the council area in September.

Speaking on behalf of the state government last week, the state information commissioner, Edet Asim, announced that new evidence has confirmed that the councillors were indeed members of the Buccaneer and Vikings cult groups, hence the need for the extended suspension. The councillors have since been arrested and are currently being held at the Afokang prison.

Real Threat is From Clean-Cut Satanists - How well do you know people

Cults

There are an estimated 100,000 or more Satanic cults in America. Those numbers sadly are out-dated and from the 1980's. The numbers are much higher now of course. But it's not a priority of the F.B.I. to track anymore.

Police are NOT allowed to call a ritual murder done to someone as so. There are certain codes for these type Satanic murders. This is a fact, ask any police officer. The F.B.I. Learned long ago when they mention "Satanic cult" in the news people go ape shit over it.

Comment from a fromer "THE BODY OF CHRIST" member

Cults

flag_usa

I, too, had grown so desperate in my struggle with trying to accept the ugly situation as "god's plan", that I decided to choose "spiritual death" over staying in that hellhole. At least that's what I thought I was choosing at the time, according to their doctrine.

You know, it should send a MAJOR message to the remaining members that if a person who was sincerely trying to seek and do the will of god would conscientiously choose spiritual death over staying at the church, well. . .what does that say about the condition of its members?

I don't know how the doctrine was at your old church, but we were taught that the ONLY people going to heaven were at GAC -- and that was only if you were PERFECT. If you left the church, you gave up your right to go to heaven and you left god's covering.

Insights: a forum to discuss the impact of abuse

Fr Geoff Mulhearn and a team from the Maitland-Newcastle Diocese have published this letter to the diocese, addressing abuse by clergy.

Many people in our diocese have been affected, perhaps to varying degrees, by the issue of abuse by some clergy. Regrettably, many have been directly and personally affected.

Others have been part of parish communities from which clergy have been, or are currently, the subject of legal allegations and/or criminal proceedings. They may have been stood aside, charged, and even sentenced. Some of these clergy have died, and others still belong to our community. Some are local, some are not.

As found in the Bible and today, Jesus Church is certainly not a cult. Jesus built His Church and bought the Church with His blood. Yet, there are so-called Christians claiming to be members of the Church of Jesus Christ who have strayed into abuse.

No one ever wakes up one day and says, Hey, you know? I think Ill shame and abuse the flock today, or I think Ill become a cult leader. Instead, gradual changes take place, usually involving the lure of power that slowly takes hold.

If you study spiritual abuse, you can get a feel for how this happens: despite differing manifestations of abuse in churches, there are common denominators. Several sources cited on this site point out the following traits and show just how it is a church can move from a healthy body to a dangerous one.

Linda Herrick: Following the leader

Cults
By Linda Herrick

I've never understood the allure of religious cults, and the first episode of the Gibson Group two-part series How To Spot a Cult, which started on TV3 last night, hasn't added any attraction. More the opposite: avoid like the plague.

On the evidence presented, cults are led by a dominant person, always men, with banal names like Bert (Potter, the convicted child abuser from Centrepoint), Doug (Metcalf, the man who founded the heavily armed Camp David near Christchurch in the 70s) and Bruce (Hale, world leader of the Brethrens). Lafayette Ron Hubbard reduced his first name to a letter, a fitting metaphor for his repressive Scientology cult.

Recently one of our northwest Seventh-day Adventist pastors went through a very difficult experience. He was encouraged by several friends to attend a weekend in Portland called Foundations. He paid the fee and attended but had such serious reservations about some of the process that he left early.

He wrote down his experience and perspectives . Afterwards he started doing more research into Foundations and other related activities. He came across an article titled White Collar Cults and stated that even though the article was written over 15 years ago it described numerous parallels with what he had just experienced.

EVEN for a religion started by a science fiction writer, the allegations levelled against the Church of Scientology in federal parliament this week sound stranger than fiction.

Blackmail, cover-ups of child abuse, labour camps, embezzlement and coerced abortions are spelled out among the 53 pages of allegations by seven former Scientologists - some of whom had climbed high in the church hierarchy - tabled in the Senate.

Dangerous Cult Mentality

Cults
I know a few people who have been involved in cults, usually religious ones, and they talk about how quickly one can get sucked into it.

Until the past few days, though, I really hadn't personally witnessed or experienced cult manipulation or recruitment techniques. Yet now that I have, I find that in good conscience, I must ask all my readers of good will and who aspire to holiness to heed the warning of Bishop Lennon who issued the Decree advising of the non-supernatural status of "Holy Love Ministries." Not just because the Bishop said so, but because I see very strong evidence that HLM, if it can't be considered to be a cult yet, is quickly headed in that direction. The warning signs are DEFINITELY present.

Based on information I obtained (and quoted in bold in several places below) from HowCultsWork.com, there are several warning signs that something might be a dangerous cult, a major one of which is the use of Mind Control, which may take several forms. I've chosen a couple that seem to apply to "Holy Love"

Teen involvement in cults

CultsTeens may get involved in cults for a wide variety of reasons. As teens make the transition from adolescence to adulthood, they're essentially seeking to formulate their identity and define their place in society.

Many teens reinvent themselves several times during this period, changing their hairstyle, manner of dress, friends, and even personality. Teens also experience periods of disillusionment during this time, discovering that life is more complicated than they had expected.
